?, 1992?
The debut of Deer ! Remains to be one of my favorites. There is a little bit of everything here… samples, foreign languages, debates, rap, even a cover of “Brown Eyes”. It all started with the first song, “Stab Your Mind”, and the introduction of it to friends of mine who only listened to hip-hop. I had only really listened to hip-hop also, so there were no rock or pop influence. The result is something you haven’t heard. My vocals were probably my biggest weakness back then, so I used a lot of effects, pitch bending my words this way and that. Fortunately, people that I showed Stab Your Mind to really responded well, so I kept on doing it (and still am). My style has changed in a lot of ways since then, but these are the definitive Deer roots. |
